Brookhaven & Southwest Mississippi Area Amenities

 The "Homeseeker's Paradise
A Great Place To Visit And An Even Better Place To Live

The three school systems in Lincoln County are among the best. The Brookhaven School District has experienced growth in enrollment and outstanding academic accomplishments over the last few years, leading to many changes throughout the district. The most significant changes have been the major construction projects the schools have undergone.

The Lincoln County School District is one of the most respected districts in the state. On the academic level, the district has achieved a stature few in the state can equal. The Mississippi School Accountability Model has rated West Lincoln Attendance Center with a Level 5, the highest level to which a school can aspire. West Lincoln is the only school in Southwest Mississippi to achieve
that rating. Bogue Chitto, Enterprise and Loyd Star Attendance Centers achieved a Level 4, or exemplary, rating.

Brookhaven Academy is a private, Christian school striving to provide college preparatory curriculum for students at its facility just outside the city limits. In academics, the school boasts a high percentage of students who further their education after high school. Many seventh graders have already set their sights on college with Duke University's Talent Identification Program (TIP). TIP's program identifies seventh graders who achieved significant academic excellence. The academy also participates in a new program that creates a partnership among high schools and community colleges.

The Brookhaven Technical Center (BTC) provides unique hands-on experience for high school students in the Brookhaven and Lincoln County school districts. The school offers eight different technical programs, including the state's most well-equipped electronics labs and the only Aging Services Program in Mississippi.

Copiah-Lincoln Community College, just 10 miles north of Brookhaven, offers academic and career and technical programs that challenge students intellectually, enhance a student's ability to think clearly and to analyze logically. The college marked its 75th anniversary as a collegiate institution in 2003.  The college's Career-Technical Division established one of two pilot programs in the state - the medical and coding technology program - in 2003. Also, Co-Lin boasts the only pulp, paper and chemical technology class in the state. The college also boasts a complete athletic program. More than 30 principal buildings stand on the 600-acre Wesson campus, valued at more than $35 million.

Renewal of the historic Whitworth College campus took another step forward in August 2003 as more than 60 artistically gifted students arrived for the start of classes at the Mississippi School of the Arts.

King's Daughters Medical Center provides first class healthcare. A newly expanded area has added 5,000 sq ft to the fitness center and opened 4,000 sq ft for therapy services. The 122-bed hospital offers a full range of services and medical specialties. The hospital is also one of the area's largest employers, providing jobs for over 500 people. The hospital staff includes over 30 active physicians and emergency specialists.

Skilled nursing home care in Brookhaven is provided at any of four facilities: Beverly Healthcare-Brookhaven, Silver Cross Home, Haven Hall Health Care Center and Countrybrook Living Center.

Brookhaven and Lincoln County have flourished recently with industry related activity in a 20-month period totaling $45.4 million in new business and the creation of 165 new jobs.
